One of the sole episodes of the series that I plain out disliked. All Supernatural shows have their duds, some of them are horrific due bad writing and others are plain out dull and forgettable. “She” is somewhere in the middle, it isn’t painful to watch but it’s almost entirely forgettable after the first act. There is just nothing to take away from it and the fact that Bai Ling is a terrible actress doesn’t help a bit.
I would certainly argue that this is the campiest episode of the entire series. And as a fan of camp, this was no exception. It is terribly cheesy, but so is all this crap I love watching. Having said that though, with a tiny bit more effort they could have made it campy AND good. Make it more Rosemary’s Baby and less Species. But i’m not complaining, so bad it’s good.
This is the type of episode that I would have expected from this show. It has that gothic feel to it that most vampire series from the 90s had (Kindred! Forever Knight!) and revealed a part of Angel’s past through flashbacks. Even though the story is kind of stand-alone-ish and was never heard from again, it does develop certain things within the actual show such as Kate finding out about Angel’s true face. I personally wish that the show had more of these type of episodes that would focus on Angel’s past and on vampires rather than some random made up demon, this is the stuff my heart beats faster for. Actually, one of the few things that bothers me about Angel is that it never actually introduced any returning vampire characters such as Spike, Darla, Dru, Harmony etc. A character like Penn could have been great to have around in several episodes but alas.
Another excellent episode thanks to Sumburu, that tribe gave us lots of drama. Lindsey became beyond a trainwreck who couldn’t deal having been voted on and Silas cockiness reached full glory. It was all very entertaining to watch.
Africa continues to deliver, the Samburu age conflict reaches it’s high when they are forced to kick out one of their own. The Mallrats making beads and eating the best foods is so bad I loved it. Boran is pretty boring in comparison, but going around in their undies was another big highlight.
Strong episode, same qualities that made the premiere such a success but in moderation. The Blood Drinking Challenge is a personal favorite of mine. Most of all, the great rivalry between the elders and mallrats was slowly brewing.
Africa’s premiere is one of the best premieres. It introduced most characters well, but most of all it introduced the drastic environment and unforgiving Kenya well. And it had drama right away, the bean incident and the gorgeous location made it a great episode.
The first episode without Doyle and intro of my very favorite: Wesley aka The Rogue Demon Hunter! Not nearly as charming or cute as Doyle, but certainly as entertaining. The thing about it is though, Wesley couldn’t fill the void that Doyle left. I don’t think any character ever quite did fill that void, Doyle had a chemistry with Cordy and Angel that no one else had. Wesley didn’t unify that 3-some group the same way but instead was more of a tag-along with his own silly gimmicks. I personally preferred Wesley’s darker stroyline that came much after but silly Wesley is always a good fun. As far as the episode goes, it was entertaining but not very memorable. The main plot about a demon auction is unique but hardly something to remember, what this episode does well is the character moments and that’s that.
This is the most boring season finale to date. Having only three people in the end, none of whom was all too interesting just didn’t seem like a good idea. The entire episode was about self-reflection, and it’s something that I would have enjoyed if these people weren’t so damn boring. The main reason why it’s disappointing is because the entire Jury portion was very boring and no one really *brought* it.
Another pretty boring episode, one episode devoted to the final four is not a very good idea. The visit from Colby’s mom was a nice highlight but could have been done the episode prior to it.
